My wife fornicates a lot - Hubby tells court

An Agege Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Lagos witnessed a mild drama when a couple seeking dissolution of their marriage called themselves names.
While the husband, Mr. Friday Godspower referred to his wife as a fornicator, the wife, Mrs. Ekaette Godspower responded by describing her husband as a homosexual.
Mr. Godspower, 31 described his wife further as violent, destructive, uncaring, disrespectful and a flirt.
He urged the court to dissolve the three-year old union between him and the petitioner, adding that he was ready to take responsibility for the upkeep of his daughter, if granted custody..
The court clerk asked him how much he could afford for the monthly allowance of his daughter if custody was given to the mother. He answered that he could only afford N2,000 because he does not have a job at the moment.
The petitioner, Ekaette Godspower, had in her petition appealed to the court to dissolve the marriage because there was no more love between them, stressing that the respondent always beat her.
The court president, Mr. E.B. Shokunle asked if her husband was like that when they were courting. She answered in the affirmative, adding that he promised to change after they got married but the beating got worse and she had a permanent scar on her face to show for it.
She described her husband as a thief and a liar who was sacked from his office for stealing. ‘‘He is a homosexual and I was told when I go to work he brings young boys home to commit the act,” she said.
The court president asked if there was any evidence of this and she said she did not bring any.
She disclosed further that her husband borrowed money to gamble but had never won and she was always paying the money back. She added that she had been feeding him, giving him pocket money and paying their daughter’s school fees.
‘‘There have been a lot of family and church meetings on his behaviour but he did not change. When my father died following my matrimonial problems, he and members of his family did not attend the burial,’’ she revealed.
After listening to her, the president of the court asked her how much she would need if the custody of the child was given to her. She said N77,000 which includes monthly allowance, school fees and medical fees.
The court president wondered how a jobless man will be able to pay the money and adjourned the case till 21 July, 2011.
He warned them to maintain peace anywhere they meet.
